Main Street House
Quarter-Inch Scale

I saw this kit by Debbie Young (Young at Heart) at a show and could not resist it. The house is one-quarter inch scale (1/4"=1 foot). I lived in a house that looked much like this when I was a child.

The kit provided the structure, doors and windows; siding, roofing, bricks, and exterior trim; and the interior details--wallpaper, flooring, staircase. Note the detail of the attic beams.

I decided to make an ice-cream parlor/bakery on the lower floor and a small apartment above.

I built this house at the same time I wrote "Viva Las Vampires" in Just One Sip.

  • Porch swing is by Karen Cary miniatures.

  • Furnishings for the bakery were a kit by Debbie Young that I'd bought years ago and stashed. I knew I was waiting for something.

  • The wonderful bakery items (cakes, cookies, and donuts by the register) I purchased from Pearce Miniatures.

  • Vintage posters I reduced and printed on a color printer. Easy and cheap.

  • Upstairs: Bedroom is a kit by Debbie Young (Young at Heart). Rugs and roses I purchased from Scale Designs.

  • In the living room, the sofa, coffee table, and lamps are from BJ Miniatures
