Blue House B&B

The completed exterior

I took the staircase out of the large rooms and will make the smaller rooms a staircase hall.

Click photos below for larger versions.

I removed the staircase and built a false wall and fireplace over the old wall. Because this is a B&B, the front room becomes the dining room.

Most of the furniture came from the eight boxes of packed away furniture I purchased with the house, except the armchair, which is Bespaq and the sideboard I purchased from Mountain Miniatures.

The basket of peaches on the sideboard are from Autumn Leaf Studio, as is the pitcher of iced tea and two glasses.

The staircase was relocated here. A nice nook in which to write a letter or read a book.

Again most of the furniture and accessories had been intended for the house, except the desk and chair from Bespaq. The toy soldiers on in the back I've had forever.

The kitchen is still in progress--need to put in more stuff and curtains.

All the kitchen fixtures are a kit from Hobby Builder's Supply. Each cabinet is separate, allowing you to custom fit your own kitchen.

Much of the "stuff" on the counters and the blue spatterware in the draining rack and cupboards came in my magic boxes. The draining rack, towels, and dishwashing liquid I picked up from Mainly Minis.

The cookie baking setup in progress is from by Barbara's Mini Design, purchased from Mountain Miniatures. (The owners are baking cookies for the arriving guests and a plate is already waiting on the sideboard with the iced tea.)

Guests arrive in the upper hall to a cozy sitting area. The couch is a cushy place to put up your feet and read against the cushions.

I made the "antique" Victorian farmhouse dollhouse from a kit from Northeastern Scale Models. The tub of flowers I bought from a Tucson dollhouse shop before it went out of business. (There is another dollhouse shop now in its place.)

On to my favorite room, the bedroom. Originally the staircase came out in this room. I boarded up the hole and put flooring in over it.

The Brodnax Prints I bought for the curtains and bed seemed to match the wallpaper perfectly.

All the furniture in this room came in the boxes of goodies, and the only thing I added was the fireplace and the screen (a d.Anne Ruff kit).

Note the beautiful straw bonnet and the old-fashioned rocking horse. The doll on the bed I purchased from Debbie Young at a show in Anaheim a few years ago.

The next most important room in a B&B is a large, cozy bathroom.

This one needed everything purchased for it, because this room was completely unfinished--the only thing original to the house was the little chair.

I fell in love with the Brodnax cherry wallpaper and think it did well in here. The linoleum floor is a piece of scrapbooking paper. Bath fixtures are commercially available and the tub is from the Chrysenbon kit.

Note how the bathtub in the picture reflects the bathtub in the room.

On a Bespaq table is a lovely vanity tray by Patsy-Mac that I bought from Mountain Miniatures.

Next--finishing the attic, porches, and landscaping.

  • I purchased this house from the daughter-in-law of a miniaturist who had passed away. I bought it plus about eight boxes of accessories.
  • At first I thought I'd fix up the house a little (glue things that had broken during the 6 years of storage) and sell it, then I started to get ideas . . .
  • This house began as the Cherrydale by Real Good Toys. The two ladies who worked on it finished the outside, built and installed the 2-story addition, wallpapered and trimmed all rooms except the bathroom, and put flooring on the first floor. Their workmanship impresses me--neat work well done.
  • The layout of the house seemed a little awkward for a normal house, then the idea came to me to do a Bed & Breakfast.
  • The two most important rooms in a B&B are the bedroom and the dining room. So the two biggest rooms are those, the two small rooms will be the staircase hall with sitting areas, and the addition will house the kitchen downstairs and bathroom above. Perfect!
  • No more thoughts of selling the house. It's been a fun project so far, great therapy for me, and I hope the two ladies I never met are happy that their house went to a lover of miniatures who will treasure it.
  • Because of the surplus of toys I found in the boxes, plus many of my own things that needed a home, I decided that the decorators of this B&B loved old fashioned toys and put them around the house for fun.
  • Scroll down for "Before" and "After" photos.
  • I went crazy with Brodnax Prints and a Pretty Pleat from d.Anne Ruff in this house, and will continue in the kitchen.
