Blue House B&B

The completed exterior, with sign ("The Blue House Bed & Breakfast"). I did all the landscaping. My first true attempt at landscaping a dollhouse.

Front Room

I removed the staircase and built a false wall and fireplace over the old wall. Because this is a B&B, the front room becomes the dining room.

Most of the furniture came from the eight boxes of packed away furniture I purchased with the house, except the armchair, which is Bespaq, and the sideboard I purchased from Mountain Miniatures. (Click photo for larger view.)

The basket of peaches is from Autumn Leaf Studio.

The wine bottle is from an artisan whose name I can't remember, but the bottle is filled with real wine and corked like a real wine bottle.

Iced tea waits on the table on a Vernon Pottery platter.

The silver cow creamer on the front room mantel (Acquisto Silver) is my homage to P.G. Wodehouse.

Downstairs Hall

The staircase was relocated here. A nice nook in which to write a letter or read a book.

Most of the furniture and accessories had been intended for the house, except the desk and chair from Bespaq. Wendy Smale pillow on the chair.

The toy soldiers on table in the back I've had forever.

Kitchen

All the kitchen fixtures are a kit from Hobby Builder's Supply. Each cabinet is separate, allowing you to custom fit your own kitchen.

Much of the "stuff" on the counters and the blue spatterware in the draining rack and cupboards came in the magic boxes. The draining rack, towels, and dishwashing liquid I picked up from Mainly Minis.

The cookie baking setup in progress is from by Barbara's Mini Design, purchased from Mountain Miniatures. (The owners are baking cookies for the arriving guests and a plate is already waiting in the upstairs hall.)

  • I bought the house and eight boxes of furniture/accessories from the daughter-in-law of a miniaturist who had passed away.
  • This house began as the Cherrydale by Real Good Toys. The two ladies who worked on it finished the outside (except for landscaping), built and installed the 2-story addition, wallpapered and trimmed all rooms except the bathroom, and put flooring on the first floor. The workmanship on everything was quite fine.
  • They had not electrified the house, so I did that too. I used a round wire system and hid the wires with downspouts on the outside of the house and behind channels along the foundation. Hid most of the channels and downspouts with the landscaping.
  • The layout of the house seemed awkward for a normal house, then the idea came to me to do a Bed & Breakfast.
  • The two most important rooms in a B&B are the bedroom and the dining room. So those are the two biggest rooms, the two small rooms would become the staircase hall with sitting areas (I had to move the stairs), and the addition ended up housing the kitchen downstairs and bathroom above. Perfect!
  • It's been great therapy for me to redo this house, and I hope the two ladies I never met are happy that their house went to a lover of miniatures who treasures it.
  • Because of the surplus of toys I found in the boxes, plus many of my own things that needed a home, I decided that the decorators of this B&B loved antique toys and put them around the house for fun.
  • I went crazy with Brodnax Prints and a Pretty Pleat from d.Anne Ruff in this house. I also use the house to showcase the beautiful pillows of the talented Wendy Smale.
